Studio, six hours. Requisites: courses 21, 22, 24, 25, 28, and 101 or 104. Exploration of how technologies used daily choreograph actions, provoke performance, and open spaces for improvisation. Creation of performative gestures that reinterpret ideas of the user interacting with a system. Study is structured around four performance assignments, dealing with themes such as instructions, errors, remote presence, and anonymity. Students learn to critique each other's work constructively-experiencing with an open mind, and thoughtfully and articulately responding. Performance activities are supplemented with attendance at performance events in Los Angeles, study of prior performance art engaging technology, short readings, and technical workshops. Focus on consideration of context, function, and meaning of these technologies; and translating this into novel ways of performing with them. No technical experience required, but a desire to take risks and step outside of one's comfort zone is necessary. Letter grading.
