Seminar, 18 hours (two weeks). Designed primarily for new students to help them understand UCLA, its culture, structure (quarter system), and academic policies; and to facilitate their transition from high school to college. Examination of research on first-year experience of college students, studying at UCLA versus high school, policies and procedures, and campus resources. Advanced preparation and early exposure to fall quarter mathematics, chemistry, and computer science curricula. Collaborative learning techniques and community-building activities are integral processes to both day and evening programs. Intensive classroom instruction and collaborative learning workshops. May be repeated for credit. Offered in summer only. P/NP grading.
