Women and Social Movements

Description

(Same as Anthropology M145R.) Lecture/discussion, three hours. Recommended preparation: prior gender studies or anthropology courses. Comparative studies of social movements (e.g., nationalist, socialist, liberal/reform), beginning with Russia and China and including Cuba, Algeria, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Nicaragua, and Iran. Analysis of women's participation in social transformations and the centrality of gender interests. P/NP or letter grading.
