Social Determinants of Health and Social Justice: Introduction to Professional Nursing Roles
Lecture, three hours; discussion, two hours. International and domestic nursing practice provides rich history of changing roles within context of ethics, and social justice. Analysis of ethical principles of justice, autonomy, veracity, beneficence, and confidentiality and professional values of altruism, autonomy, human dignity, integrity, and social justice in relation to (nursing) practice across lifespan development and across health-illness continuum. Exploration of social determinants of health within context of social, cultural, legal, and political forces and traditions of paternalism affecting professional nursing in diverse populations. Letter grading.
