Lecture, three hours. Requisites: courses 238A, 238B. Corequisite: course 437A. First course in a two-course sequence, designed for the acute care pediatric nurse practitioner student and for primary care students. Focus on pathophysiology of specific disease processes, pharmacologic knowledge, clinical decision-making, and treatment modalities in managing complex acute and critical health conditions in infants, children, and adolescents and their families. Cultural sensitivity, child development, family support, ethical issues, palliative care, and end of life care are integrated into select acute and chronic conditions. Lectures and other learning activities demonstrate the application and evaluation of evidence-based research and clinical guidelines related to the pediatric population. Letter grading.
