Lecture, three to four hours; discussion, one hour (when scheduled). Preparation: two philosophy courses. Recommended: some background in basic calculus and physics. Intensive study of one or two metaphysical topics on which results of modern science have been thought to bear. Topics may include nature of causation, reality and direction of time, time-travel, backwards causation, realism, determinism, absolute view of space, etc. May be repeated for credit with consent of instructor. P/NP or letter grading.
