Lecture, four hours. Requisites: courses 111A, 111B, Life Sciences 2 or 7C, Physics 1A, 1B, and 1C, or 5A, 5B, and 5C, or 6A, 6B, and 6C. Developments in biotechnology and their impact on diagnosis and treatment of disease, basic engineering principles, and designs that lend themselves to deciphering physiological states, and application of new technologies in clinical practice and biomedical research. Letter grading.
