Seminar, three hours. Crime is one of most costly social problems faced by societies across world. Examination of crime trends, criminogenic factors that influence them, and policy initiatives that influence them, largely in U.S. context. Criminal justice policy community is increasingly focused on best and evidence-based practice, and often derives implication and policy recommendation from existing empirical research. Focus on basic empirical and theoretical research on determinants of criminal offending and effectiveness, and effects of policy interventions meant to address criminal offending.
