Women and Gender in Ancient India

Description

Lecture, three hours. Knowledge of Asian languages not required. Examination of position and function of women in ancient India, primarily through study of key religious and legal texts. Topics include women's life cycle, relation to social institutions, and challenges to these ideals, especially in narrative literature. P/NP or letter grading.
