Complete International and Area Studies 1, one area studies course, two international politics and markets courses, two international societies and cultures courses, and one area-related foreign language sequence through the intermediate level as follows:
International Politics and Markets
Select two courses from the following. Only one course from Political Science 50 or 50R may be applied.
Select 2 from 6 options:
International Societies and Cultures
Select two courses from the following. Only one course from Comparative Literature 1D, 2DW, or 4DW may be applied.
Select 2 from 11 options:
Foreign Language
Complete one area-related foreign language sequence through the intermediate level. This can also be fulfilled by a placement examination. Examples of final courses in a sequence include ARABIC 102C, ARMENIA 102C, HEBREW 102C, IRANIAN 102C, TURKIC 102C, etc.

Complete one capstone seminar and 11 upper-division courses divided among area studies and international themes as follows:
Honors Program
The honors program offers motivated majors the opportunity to design and conduct independent research under the guidance of a faculty adviser. To enter the honors program, students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA in all preparation for the major courses, a minimum 3.5 GPA in all upper-division coursework for the major, and obtain agreement from a faculty member to supervise their honors thesis.
Honors Program Requirements
This is an optional program. Honors are awarded to students who complete all major requirements with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better in upper-division major courses, successfully complete the three-course honors sequence, and produce an honors thesis (approx. 35-50 pages) deemed of honors quality. Highest honors requires a 3.75 GPA and an exceptional thesis.
